Scream 6 director Tyler Gillett says the new sequel will risk it all

Last Updated on June 13, 2022

If you haven’t watched the latest Scream movie yet and want to avoid SPOILERS, you might not want to read the text below.

If you have seen the movie or have read up on the spoilers, then you know that the new Scream‘s directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick sacrificed a beloved character to prove to viewers that their film was serious business with major stakes. That character made it through four previous films, but didn’t make it through their movie. Now Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment have another Scream sequel from the same creative team (we’re calling it Scream 6 for now) on the fast track – and Gillett has made it clear to Empire that they’re not afraid to shake things up in this one, either. In fact, Gillett said they’re going to “risk it all” with this one.

Here’s exactly what the film’s co-director had to say:

This movie has to be willing to risk it all in order to subvert all of those expectations. And we’re so far down the rabbit hole of Scream movies, that it’s all up for grabs at this point.”

Vanderbilt is producing the film alongside his Project X Entertainment partners Paul Neinstein and William Sherak. Kevin Williamson, writer of the original Scream, serves as executive producer with Chad Villella, Gary Barber, and Peter Oillataguerre.

Franchise heroine Neve Campbell has said that she has been contacted about coming back for Scream 6, but she’s waiting to read the script before she decides whether or not to sign on. Her franchise co-star Courteney Cox has confirmed that she already has a copy of the script.
