Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze 35th anniversary re-release scheduled for March

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze is getting a theatrical re-release for its 35th anniversaryTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze is getting a theatrical re-release for its 35th anniversary

Back in 1990, New Line Cinema (which is now a Warner Bros. subsidiary) rocked a lot of childhoods with the release of the first live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Thirty-five years later, Fathom Entertainment brought that movie back to theatres, along with a making-of featurette – and that re-release proved to be so popular, what was originally expected to be a two-day run was first extended to a full week, then two weeks, and ended up with a four-week run! During its four weeks in theatres, the movie reached the top 10 at the box office and earned almost $3.7 million at the domestic box office.

This year, Fathom, Warner Bros., and Saga Arts are looking to replicate that success with a theatrical re-release of the 1991 sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, and they’ve announced that the movie will be back on the big screen from March 13th through the 19th.

Synopsis

Directed by Michael Pressman from a screenplay written by Todd W. Langen, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze has the following synopsis: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Mark Caso, Michelan Sisti, Leif Tilden, Kenn Troum) again battle their archenemy, the rogue ninja Shredder (Francois Chau). Shredder attempts revenge by obtaining the same radioactive ooze that created the Turtles and unleashing two new monstrous mutants: Tokka, an oversized snapping turtle, and Rahzar, a fearsome wolf-like creature. When Shredder plans to use the remaining ooze on himself, the Turtles must harness their ninja fighting skills to stop him.

Re-Release

For this re-release, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze will be showing in theatres in a newly restored 4K presentation. In addition to the feature, “the anniversary event will include a never-before-seen featurette, The Ninja Turtles: Revolutions, appearing before the movie—step into the mind of TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, joining him on a vision through the past. I was born in the 1980s, so it’s probably no surprise to hear that I was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles super-fan when I was a kid. I watched the cartoon, collected the toys, had the bed sheets, and would get hyped for the movies. I was blown away by the first live-action film in 1990, so my Turtle-mania was at its peak when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze was heading for its 1991 release. This was one of the biggest cinematic events of my life, so I’m glad to hear that the movie will be back on the big screen this year.
