When PROMETHEUS hit theaters last year, many looking for a true follow-up to ALIEN were disappointed with a very different type of sci-fi movie from Ridley Scott. While I really enjoyed PROMETHEUS, I too have been holding out hope for a direct ALIEN sequel that would capture the same horror that the 1979 film engineered. A movie like that may not be coming soon but it appears the new ALIEN video game may just do the trick.
The newly announced ALIEN: ISOLATION from Sega appears to be the closest we have ever had to a true ALIEN sequel. Most ALIEN video games have actually been action-oriented and more like James Cameron‘s ALIENS rather than Scott’s film, but ALIEN: ISOLATION looks like an encompassing, realistic, and frightening experience. Even the plot follows as a direct continuation of ALIEN:
When she left Earth, Ellen Ripley promised her daughter Amanda she would return home for her 11th birthday. Amanda never saw her again. Fifteen years later, Amanda, now a Weyland-Yutani employee, hears that the flight recorder of her mother’s ship, the Nostromo, has been recovered at the remote trading station Sevastopol. The temptation for her to finally understand what happened is too much to resist. When the crew arrive at Sevastopol, they find something is desperately wrong. It all seems to be connected to an unknown menace, stalking and killing deep in the shadows. In order to uncover the truth about her mother, Amanda is forced to confront the same terrifying thing that separated them.
Featuring stunningly rendered graphics, ALIEN: ISOLATION will require the player to use their wits to find and assemble means of survival and ways to actually fight or evade the Xenomorph enemy. On top of all that, the Xenomorph AI adapts to your gameplay, giving you a true opponent.

To commemorate the 35th Anniversary of Ridley Scott‘s film, ALIEN: ISOLATION will be available late 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
