Seth MacFarlane’s ‘The Orville’ renewed for season 3 by Fox

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Seth MacFarlane's THE ORVILLE has officially been renewed for a third season by Fox.

For those not already familiar with MacFarlane's latest, THE ORVILLE is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows the exploits of The U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the problems of everyday life.

The show debuted to a rocky start, struggling to tread the thin line between drama and comedy. Our own Alex Maidy reviewed the pilot episode, reporting that "The humor is all over the place, but the good elements of this show are absolutely a breath of nostalgaic air that many science fiction and Trek fans will really enjoy."

Since then, the FAMILY GUY creator has really found his footing in the sci-fi world, and a devoted following along the way. In its first season, THE ORVILLE averaged 10.7 million total viewers in multi-platform audience. This past season-to-date, the show averaged 1.4 and 1.81 million viewers in adults 18-49 and 5.4 million total viewers. Its Season 2 ender drew in 2.92 million viewers.

THE ORVILLE is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. MacFarlane, Brannon Braga, David A. Goodman, Jason Clark executive produce with Jon Cassar, who also directs. Jon Favreau directed the series’ premiere episode.
