The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been going strong for over a decade at this point, during which time we’ve seen countless actors bring classic Marvel characters to life. Some have remained with the series throughout its run while others have popped in and out. Tim Roth might just hold the record for the longest absence. The actor first appeared as the Abomination in The Incredible Hulk in 2008 and didn’t make his return until Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. That won’t be Tim Roth’s only appearance as the Abomination as he also reprised the role for Marvel’s upcoming She-Hulk series on Disney+.

While speaking with Uproxx, Tim Roth said that he was very surprised when Kevin Feige wanted him to return to the MCU as the Abomination.

Well, honestly, it totally surprised me. I went in to chat with Kevin Feige and he said, “I’ve got an idea. Come in.” Really? Really? Because the original thing that I did, when I did that first Incredible Hulk movie, was I just did it for my kids.

No one had any idea what the MCU would become during the production of The Incredible Hulk, so Tim Roth was thrilled to return for She-Hulk so many years later. “I was amazed when they came back around and said, ‘How would you feel about…’ And I went, ‘Yeah. All right!’” Roth said. “And we just shot it, I guess in the summer last year or whatever. I think that they’re in post now doing it, so whenever. Bonus, I got to work with Mark Ruffalo. Awesome. Who I love. And I don’t know if I’m allowed to say. Oh, I can say that. But this extraordinary woman, Tatiana… Incredible, that woman. So that was a blast. It was insane.

In addition to the Abomination, She-Hulk stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, a lawyer and cousin of Bruce Banner who inherits his Hulk powers after receiving a blood transfusion from him. Ginger Gonzaga, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Josh Segarra, and Jameela Jamil also star in the series, as well as Mark Ruffalo, who will reprise his role of Bruce Banner. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed in 2020 that the She-Hulk series would be a half-hour legal comedy, which Feige acknowledged is something they’ve never done before. She-Hulk is expected to debut on Disney+ later this year.
