North Bergen High School in New Jersey made headlines recently when a stage play they did of the movie ALIEN made national headlines for looking so incredibly badass. Even the movie’s star Sigourney Weaver and director Ridley Scott thought so, and the former took her praise a step further by heading out to the school on April 26 – which also happens to be Alien Day – and gave the students the shock of their lives before an encore presentation.

A video was posted on Twitter showing Weaver walking down the school hallways towards the blown-away cast and crew of the show. “I’m so excited to be here,” Weaver says. “I am representing all ALIEN fans all over the universe who think what you’re doing is so cool and so important.”

Weaver stayed to watch the show’s encore performance, taking to the stage to address the crowd before it began. She expressed her excitement about finally getting to see the show, and thank mayor Nick Sacco, who after the encore presentation confirmed the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts granted each student in the show a $1K scholarship to their summer program, and for each Senior a $10K scholarship for college.

This year’s Alien Day (named that for the fictional planet in the movie, LV-426), was particularly special given it’s the original movie’s 40th anniversary, and the stage play is the perfect example of how the movie still has an impact on a new generation on viewers. Made with a budget of $3,500 and props made of scraps, the play quickly drew attention online as pics and videos from the production were posted. Even Scott himself was impressed, penning a letter praising the students’ “creativity, imagination and determination.”
