Simon Cowell to help produce new Betty Boop feature film

Variety is reporting a Betty Boop feature-length film is in the works, and it's being described as a "music-driven hybrid animated comedy." The movie will be produced and developed by Simon Cowell through his Syco Entertainment with Fleischer Studios, who owns the rights to the character. The Australian animation and visual effects studio Animal Logic (X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, THE LEGO MOVIE) will also help produce the upcoming film.

Simon Cowell on Betty Boop:

Betty is an icon, and one of the biggest stars in the world – I’m thrilled to be working with her. Betty, I’ve worked with some serious divas but I think you could be the biggest of them all!

Betty Boop first appeared in Max Fleischer’s “Talkartoons” in the 1930s, and since then has become one of the world's most recognizable animated characters. Besides the cartoons, she's also been used in commercials, and made a cameo appearance in WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT.

The question is, how will the Betty Boop movie be handled? I doubt most younger people have seen any of Fleisher's cartoons, and I get the feeling if they try to modernize the character, it might turn off older fans. I also don't think kids will be that excited to see a new Betty Boop film. Maybe I'm wrong though. Are you interested in seeing BETTY BOOP, and do you think children will want to check out the movie?
