A couple years ago, it was announced that Brian Duffield, writer of the genre films The Babysitter, Spontaneous, Underwater, and Love and Monsters, would be writing and executive producing the Kong animated series Skull Island for Legendary Entertainment and the Netflix streaming service. Now Netflix has confirmed that the show will be available to watch as of June 22nd – and they have unveiled a teaser trailer to give us an idea of what this series has in store for us. You can check it out in the embed above.

Skull Island is said to be “a new epic chapter in Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise”. In addition to the film Kong: Skull Island (watch it HERE), the Monsterverse also includes 2014’s Godzilla, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong.

The Skull Island animated series will center on a group of explorers that find themselves on a collision course with strange beasts, terrifying Titans and the most mysterious island the world has ever known!

We had previously heard that the leads of the show are shipwrecked characters who are desperate to survive the most dangerous place on Earth, the island that is home to colossal monsters, including the iconic “megaprimatus” Kong.

The voice cast includes Nicolas Cantu (The Fabelmans) as Charlie, Mae Whitman (Family Guy) as Annie, Darren Barnett (Never Have I Ever) as Mike, Benjamin Bratt (Poker Face) as Cap, Phil LaMarr (Pulp Fiction) as Sam, Fryda Wolff (TrollsTopia) as Island Girl, and Betty Gilpin (Mrs. Davis) as Irene.

Jacob Robinson of the production company Tractor Pants is executive producing Skull Island alongside Duffield, Brad Graeber, Jen Chambers, and Thomas Tull. The animation is being handled by Powerhouse Animation, the studio behind Netflix’s Castlevania anime series. This project is separate from Netflix’s previous animated Kong show, Kong: King of the Apes, which ran for two seasons on the streaming service.

As a viewer of all things Kong and Godzilla, I will definitely be tuning in for this show next month.
