Allison Mack, the actress best known for her role as Chloe Sullivan on Smallville, has been released from prison after serving the majority of her three-year sentence for racketeering and racketeering conspiracy.

The charges against Allison Mack — who was found guilty in 2021 — stem from her involvement with NXIVM, the MLM company aka cult founded by Keith Raniere, who himself was found guilty of numerous crimes in 2019, including sex trafficking, sexual exploitation and conspiracy. He was sentenced to a $1.75 million fine and 120 years in prison, in addition to being ordered to pay $3.5 million in restitution to more than 20 victims. Mack was specifically involved with a secret society within NXIVM called DOS, which recruited women for exploitation, grooming, forced labor, and more. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Mack previously released a statement that read, in part: “I threw myself into the teachings of Keith Raniere with everything I had…I believed, whole-heartedly, that his mentorship was leading me to a better, more enlightened version of myself. I devoted my loyalty, my resources, and, ultimately, my life to him. This was the biggest mistake and regret of my life.”

Allison Mack was released on Monday, July 3rd, having begun her intended three-year sentence in September 2021. In 2020, Allison Mack filed for divorce from Battlestar Galactica actress Nicki Clyne, a fellow recruit of Raniere’s.

The NXIVM story has proven, not all that surprisingly, to be a fairly popular subject for docuseries, with HBO and Starz both producing works in 2020, while Dateline aired a special in 2021. And yes, it got the Lifetime treatment, with Sara Fletcher playing Allison Mack.

Allison Mack was a popular addition to Smallville as Clark Kent’s close friend and Lois Lane’s cousin Chloe Sullivan, a character created specifically for the show. Through her run, she was nominated for two Saturn Awards and won the Teen Choice Award for Best Sidekick in a TV Series twice. She would reprise the role for the web series Smallville: Chloe Chronicles and Smallville: Vengeance Chronicles.
