Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has picked up the North American rights to Magnet Films’ RETREAT. Take a look at the sales art to the right. Variety also revealed a little more about the plot:
RETREAT finds Murphy and Newton heading to a remote island cottage to rebuild their frail marriage. When a wounded and armed stranger (Bell) shows up at their door with news about a deadly airborne virus, they must seal themselves inside the cottage, where the tension starts to escalate from psychological to physical.
The British thriller stars Cillian Murphy (INCEPTION), Thandie Newton (below, VANISHING ON 7TH STREET) and Jamie Bell (KING KONG). It is directed by newcomer Carl Tibbetts, who co-wrote the script with Janice Hallett. Expect it to be released later this year.
Producer Gary Sinyor of Magnat Films had this to say: “I’m delighted that Sony have added North America to the territories they held before we started filming. The film is a very successful realization of a really strong script loaded with twists and turns and with great performances from our cast. It looks incredibly cinematic and we all look forward to working with Sony to see it up on the big screen.”
