Somebody at Sony must have the munchies because today the studio has announced plans to move forward with two food themed films. The first is an R-rated animated comedy from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg titled SAUSAGE PARTY. Now, before your mind goes down the gutter, the movie is not about penises, but actually about a literal sausage. The story comes from Rogen, Goldberg, and Jonah Hill and follows an anthropomorphized encased meat on the journey of a lifetime. According to Deadline:
After falling out of a shopping cart, the hero sausage and his new friends embark on a journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale. “

SAUSAGE PARTY will be directed by Conrad Vernon (SHREK 2) and Greg Tiernan and Sony is aiming for a 2015 release date.
The other project is a live action comedy starring Jason Segel and directed by HORRIBLE BOSSES helmer Seth Gordon. There is no title or writers to be named, just that the plot revolves around the heist of Canadian maple syrup. My mind immediately jumps to the chugging scene from SUPER TROOPERS. The concept sounds utterly ridiculous, but it could be a fun time. Of course that depends on who is writing and directing it.
The two projects are unrelated, but couple these new movies with the upcoming CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2 hitting theaters this weekend and you begin to wonder if vampires, zombies, and fairy tale characters are being usurped by food as the hot subject of the moment.
