While it’s shocking that Sony and Marvel Studios have kept a lid on spoilers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day as long as they have, new details about the upcoming superhero spectacle are steadily swinging through. To get audiences excited about the upcoming Spidey sequel, the latest issue of Empire Magazine features a cover story about the wall-crawler’s next adventure, which includes two stunning covers and new images from the movie.
New covers and images swing through
The standard Empire cover features Tom Holland’s Spider-Man swinging through skyscrapers while trying to escape The Hand, an elite and ruthless gang of red-suited assassins. If you look closely, you can see Spidey using old-school web-shooters, likely because the web-headed hero is working with dated materials since no one remembers him. Meanwhile, the subscriber cover features Spidey facing The Hand head-on. The cover is bright red with intricate webbing. The Hand is steadily moving toward Spider-Man, who’s at the center of the web. Oddly, I got Akira vibes from this poster. It’s something about the formation of The Hand toward the bottom of the image. Did anyone else see that, or am I just too anime-pilled?
The article includes a pic of Spider-Man using his super-strength to do some serious lifting. At the same time, another shows a bare-chested Peter Parker navigating a tangle of webs, his expression shocked as he tears through it. According to Empire, it was Holland’s idea to include an element of Peter’s “Spider-Puberty” in the film.

Holland and Cretton on Spider-Man’s Brand New Day journey
“They liked the kernel of the idea and it grew into what we have in the movie now,” he tells Empire.
Regarding the “Spider Puberty” storyline, many fans suspect Peter could transform into Man-Spider at some point in the film, a mutated version of Spider-Man.
“He is dedicating his entire existence to this job,” Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton says about where Peter is in the film. “That’s the core theme that I find incredibly relatable. I think most people at certain points in our lives have gone through loss. At least for me, and I think for many people, the result can be: ‘Screw it. I’m just going to work. I’m going to do nothing else but work.’ That’s obviously not the most healthy state.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo, swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
