Ever since the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man from 2002, in order to fully show off Spider-Man’s ability to swing around New York City with his amazing acrobatic skills, CGI was used to display the ultra-fantastic action. However, a new featurette for Spider-Man: Brand New Day shows that director Destin Daniel Cretton opted for more practical stuntwork for the upcoming MCU film. Many can see Tom Holland’s athletic prowess with past training videos and on-set footage showcasing his gymnastics skills. In this new featurette, he reveals that for the new entry, they have shot the most stunts, on the day, in camera, for any of his Spider-Man movies.
Then, Cretton remarks how overwhelming it was to see a huge crowd gather to spectate the filming of a city chase sequence and their energy was a reminder of how important their film is to the fans.
In addition to the featurette, Sony and Marvel Studios have released a new poster for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which displays an iconic image of the Spider-Man suit being revealed under Peter Parker’s clothing. You can check it out below.
“After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man,” reads the official synopsis. “Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.“
Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is directing from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Holland has naturally returned as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Jon Bernthal joins him as Frank Castle/Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, and Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone. Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Tramell Tillman appear in unspecified roles.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will hit theaters on July 31.
