Alright, to be honest, I’ve never heard of SPOOKS. But I just read up on it and I’m officially stoked! In my eyes, this one will rank right up there with MARVEL ZOMBIES and ASH VS FREDDY VS JASON.
Writer/director Ryan Schifrin recently took a second to let us know that the first issue of SPOOKS will be hitting comic book shelves this February courtesy of Devil’s Due. Schifrin is most known for ABOMINABLE. I’ve heard good things about ABOMINABLE and purchased it recently, I’m definately going to be checking it out.
In case you don’t know what the comic is about:
SPOOKS is the name of a secret branch of the government that guards humanity from things that go bump in the night, and when the king of all vampires allies with the deadliest of witches, it unleashes an invasion of classic monsters on Washington DC, calling the SPOOKS team into action.
Now that sounds awesome. The comic has an awesome team behind it too! Of course there’s Ryan Schifrin. Producer Daniel Alter also has his hand in this one along with RA Salvatore and Larry Hama writing. Adam Archer is handling the artwork.
Comic Monsters recently scored an awesome interview with Schifrin. You can check that out over here. The writer/director gets into all the details on the comic. From it’s origins, to the characters, to comparisons. One part of the interview that made me smile was:
“My feeling was that every Christmas they play A CHRISTMAS STORY on TV non-stop, but the only perennial Halloween favorites are THE GREAT PUMPKIN and NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. I wanted to do a big epic fantasy action movie that is a love letter to my favorite holiday and monsters that could become a staple of the season.”
If your interested in SPOOKS at all, definately check out the interview. You can check out some artwork above and below, click the above pic for a larger version. Make sure you pick up the first issue of SPOOKS, hitting shelves this February. For more info, you can head over to Devil’s Due.
