Starship Troopers to land on the small screen?

We’ve been hearing about a new STARSHIP TROOPERS movie since 2011, when it was first announced FAST & FURIOUS producer Neil Moritz would be overseeing a new adaptation of the classic Robert Heinlein sci-fi novel, which plenty of folks are familiar with thanks to Paul Verhoeven’s satirical take on the material in ’97. Screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (THOR) were hired for the project, with the former early last year calling it “less a satire” than Verhoeven’s movie and more faithful to Heinlein’s novel. So where do we stand? Would you like to know more?

Apparently, it’s still not very close to coming together; in fact, the producer isn’t sure what form it will take. In an interview with Hitfix, Moritz let it be known STARSHIP TROOPERS might not even end up being a movie, but a TV series instead.

We’re developing it. We’ve actually been talking about either doing it as a feature or doing it as a television show. So we’ll see.”

Guess all these years of development haven’t made things any clearer for this team. A small-screen adaptation isn’t the worst idea in the world, we’ve seen epic sci-fi shows like Battlestar Galactica thrive, as long as we’re all OK with the fact that this probably won’t resemble Verhoeven’s 1997 classic (yes, I said it) in any way.

There will only be one Carmen Ibanez
