First footage: Stephen King’s In the Tall Grass hits Netflix in October

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

SPLICE and CUBE director Vincenzo Natali's adaptation of Stephen King's short story IN THE TALL GRASS is all set to be hosting its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest 2019. And today we've learned that the film will be unleashed onto Netflix next month.

This update comes to us from a Netflix & Chills video the streaming giant just put out. Not only does it feature some choice footage from IN THE TALL GRASS but it also sports new looks at IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON, ELI, and more. Make sure to check it out above!

The new King movie is all set to star Patrick Wilson (THE CONJURING, INSIDIOUS), Laysla De Oliveira and Harrison Gilbertson. WESTWORLD's James Marsden was originally attached to take the lead role, but scheduling conflicts knocked him out of the game and now Wilson will be taking over.

Solid trade, I say.

The film is based on a short story by King and son Joe Hill that was published in Esquire Magazine. It begins:

After hearing a young boy’s cry for help, a sister and brother venture into a vast field of tall grass in Kansas but soon discover there may be no way out… and that something evil lurks within the tall grass.

Netflix acquired the rights to this super-creepy short tale of terror and quickly hired Natali to not only helm the adaptation but pen the screenplay as well. The film is produced by Steven Hoban, Jimmy Miller, and M. Riley. It is the third Netflix collaboration with King, following 1922 and GERALD'S GAME. Once again it premieres at this year's Fantastic Fest and will then hit Netflix on October 4, 2019.
