While Stranger Things may be ending with its upcoming fifth and final season, it looks like Netflix isn’t going to let the franchise go dormant, with the streamer officially green-lighting an animated series based on their most popular show. According to Deadline, the series will come from Flying Bark Productions, the same studio behind Marvel’s What If and Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur series, and producer Eric Robles.

Nothing much is known about the new show, but the Duffer Bros are involved, with them releasing a statement where they compared it to classic animated Saturday Morning cartoons. The statement reads: “We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues.”

The Duffer Bros will serve as executive producers on the show, along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps, who also produce the flagship series. The Duffer Bros, whose company is appropriately called Upside Down Productions, apparently have several Stranger Things spin-offs in the works, including a stage play and a live-action spin-off that, they said, won’t have anything to do with the original cast.

In the meantime, the final season starts shooting this June and should air sometime in late 2024 or perhaps even summer of 2025. Time will tell, but whatever happens, the new season should be a ratings juggernaut, with season 4 ranking as the streamer’s most-watched show ever (although Wednesday came close to eclipsing it).
