Stranger Things spin-off won’t be about Steve, Dustin, Eleven, or another number

The Netflix series Stranger Things will be wrapping up with season 5, which series creators the Duffer Brothers think will be slightly shorter than season 4. But this series has been such a massive success for Netflix, it’s no surprise that there’s talk of a spin-off. A while back, the Duffers admitted that they have an idea for a spin-off that will be “very, very different” than Stranger Things. Now they have continued to talk up how different this spin-off show would be during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Variety provides the transcript:

It’s not following… I’ve read these rumors that there’s gonna be an Eleven spin-off, that there’s gonna be a Steve and Dustin spin-off or that it’s another number. That’s not interesting to me because we’ve done all that. We’ve spent I don’t know how many hours exploring all of that. So it’s very different.”

They even said this other show would be “1000% different”, but connected to Stranger Things through the “storytelling sensibility”, not main characters. The Duffers also don’t intend to be the showrunners on the spin-off; they want to “find that right person to pass the baton to while we go on to do new stuff.” They are “jazzed” about their spin-off idea, but haven’t pitched it to Netflix yet.

While it’s cool that the Duffers want to do something different with the franchise that will focus on different characters, I want to let it be known that I would happily watch a Dustin and Steve sitcom spin-off. There doesn’t even have to be monsters in it, I just want to see a few seasons worth of them having wacky life experiences (with appearances by other Stranger Things characters).
