“This is not about getting back at dad, but if it hurts him, it doesn’t bother me.” The Roy family doesn’t f*ck around. The hit HBO series Succession returns with its fourth season and the premium cable channel has just dropped the new trailer via Variety. Season 3 left off with the patriarchal powerhouse of Logan Roy, played immaculately by Brian Cox, betraying his children by selling off their family business of Waystar Royco, the firm which the Emmy Award-winning series revolves around.

For years prior, the Roy children have been at each other’s necks trying like hell to succeed him, and they now find themselves in an unlikely alliance to get their company back from Lukas Matsson, played by Alexander Skarsgård. In the finale of season 3, Logan ignored all attempts to stop him from making the deal and even mocked his own kids as he did it.

Shiv knew by the episode’s end that they would be coming for her, double-crossing her. Kendall had promised that the Roys would unite against their father, now, this fourth season would show that prediction come to fruition. It sounds like the Shakespearean set-up for a finale, however it is not yet known if this would be the HBO show’s swan song. The creator, Jesse Armstrong, is not sure how long the show would continue, but this shake-up in the story changes the very nature of it, for according to him, “It changes it. I’d be bullshitting you if I told you I knew exactly what was going to happen. We’ll follow the truth, and the business of that. I think succession in one form or another is very much still on the table.”

Cox thinks it would be the perfect time to go out as the normally outspoken actor says shows can ruin their legacy by overstaying their welcome. However, fans will just have to be patient enough to find out later if the cast and crew intend to continue after this intense follow-up. Succession is a critical darling of HBO. One of many. The show has earned 48 Emmy nominations, and has won 13 (including two prizes for best drama). Last year for its third season, it won the top prize, as well as a writing Emmy for Armstrong for “All the Bells Say” and supporting actor for Macfadyen.

Season 4 premieres on Sunday, March 26.
