New trailer for The Super Mario Bros Movie released

Lets-a-go! Nintendo has released a new trailer for The Super Mario Bros Movie, which offers us much more of Chris Pratt’s Mario than the first one. The new trailer also introduces us to Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, and more, and there are also plenty of references to many of the Super Mario video games, including Mario Kart. All in all, it looks like a lot of fun.

The Super Mario Bros Movie features the voices of Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Aaron Horvath and Micahel Jelenic directed the movie from a script by Matthew Fogel.

The project hasn’t exactly been free of controversy. The casting of Chris Pratt has come under fire, as has the voice he uses on the movie. John Leguizamo has also voiced his disappointment on the film not casting another person of colour as Luigi, the role he played in the 1994 live-action movie. “I’m O.G. A lot of people love the original,” Leguizamo said. “I did Comic-Con in New York and in Baltimore, and everyone’s like, ‘No, no, we love the old one, the original.’ They’re not feeling the new one.’ I’m not bitter. It’s unfortunate. The directors, Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton fought really hard for me to be the lead because I was a Latin man, and they [the studio] didn’t want me to be the lead. They fought really hard, and it was such a breakthrough. For them to go backwards and not cast another [actor of color] kind of sucks.”
