Swamp Thing (1982) – DC Films Revisited

When you think of superheroes, you tend to think of some kind of vulcanized rubber or tight spandex costume, right? And someone that’s off saving civilians in a big metropolitan city? But what about a superhero that is a humanoid combination of plant matter? And instead of a sprawling metropolis, he resides in a sprawling swamp, ready to take on any bad guys that come into his territory. Not only that, but he’s got insane strength and the ability to manipulate plants. Sign us up! Join us today as we go over this unique and interesting creature of the marsh in DC Films Revisited: “Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing (1982).”

Indeed, Swamp Thing is probably the last movie when people consider the filmic legacy left behind by DC Films, but it was a real deal movie. It did well enough on home video and cable that in 1989 there was a goofy sequel, The Return of Swamp Thing, and even a syndicated TV version, both of which featured stuntman Dick Durock recreating his role. In this episode of DC Films Revisited, we examine how Wes Craven became involved in his only superhero film, why two actors play Swamp Thing, Adrienne Barbeau‘s cleavage and the controversy surrounding it and more!

DC Films Revisited is written, edited and narrated by Tyler Nichols. Chris Bumbray is the producer, and the show is executive produced by Berge Garabedian. Check out some other episodes below!
