Taika Waititi looks on the bright side of the delay of Thor: Love & Thunder

Like the majority of films out there, the release date of THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER was delayed thanks to COVID-19 shutting down much of the industry, and while it may be disappointing for fans to have to wait a little longer to witness the return of the God of Thunder, writer/director Taika Waititi is looking on the bright side.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER was originally slated to hit theaters on November 5, 2021, but as the film hadn't yet kicked off production, the COVID-19 shutdown forced Marvel to push the film back to February 11, 2022. While speaking with Total Film, Taika Waititi said that the delay isn't necessarily a bad thing.

There are a few positive things I can take away [from the Covid-19 crisis]. One of them is that a lot of these films, and films in general, are rushed, or you don’t have as much time as you’d want to have on the script and things like that.

"We’re still writing Love And Thunder, and I think it’s good to just keep writing, and then you know, we’ll have a really, really good script," Waititi continued. "And with writing, especially, you should use as much of that time as possible to get your story right, because you never really get it later on. Film is an industry where you’re always complaining about not having enough time. I think, right now, we’ve given ourselves a huge amount of time to work on all sort of things, so we may as well use it." In addition to Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the film will also star Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Taika Waititi as Korg, and Christian Bale, who is rumoured to be playing the villain. Given where AVENGERS: ENDGAME left off, it's also possible that the Guardians of the Galaxy will factor into the film in some fashion.
