Tales of the Walking Dead: Sonequa Martin-Green wants to return as Sasha

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Like many characters on AMC's The Walking Dead, Sasha Williams met a tragic end. Played by Sonequa Martin-Green, Sasha was introduced in the third season of the show and made it all the way to the last episode of season 7 (which began with the murder of her boyfriend Abraham) before she was killed off, poisoning herself while a captive of the villainous Saviors in hopes that she would take some of them out as a zombie.

In the time since her exit from The Walking Dead, Martin-Green has found further success with her role on the series Star Trek: Discovery – but she has let it be known that if her former employers want her to reprise the role of Sasha on the recently announced anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead, she's on board.

Tales of the Walking Dead will be

episodic in format, and will likely focus on individual characters from the clearly expanding Deadverse, both new and old.

Which means there's a big chance we'll be seeing episodes that focus on characters we already saw die on The Walking Dead. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Martin-Green said she would love to be on the show.

I'd loooooove it. I love Sasha. I love The Walking Dead. … It would be interesting. I was always interested in backstory. Of course, I am as an actor with every character that I play. But as the years went on as Sasha, I was finding so much joy in developing so much backstory that no one would ever know. That's one of the great things about being an actor in TV, is that you get to build so much life over the years and over the seasons."

Speaking of backstory, Martin-Green went on to reveal that she was the one who came up with the idea that Sasha was a firefighter before the zombie apocalypse.

I remember when I decided that I was a firefighter and then built all those memories for myself. But then that started to become part of the conversation. And it was nice. It was nice to be able to create in the privacy of your own home in your own little bubble and then have that become a part of the public conversation. That was really cool to see."

Seeing how enthusiastic Martin-Green is about the idea of playing Sasha again, I'm thinking AMC should make sure that we get a Sasha episode of Tales of the Walking Dead.
