The Aeronauts trailer finds Redmayne, Jones soaring higher, further, faster

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones did wonders together in the drama THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING, and now they’re back at it in the new Amazon movie, THE AERONAUTS. But this time they’re in a much more dangerous scenario as they play James Glaisher and Amelia Wren, who in using Wren’s hot air balloon travel higher than anyone has ever gone for the sake of studying weather patterns. Someone should tell them balloons may not do well against lightning.

Of course, that’s both a silly and adventurous idea, and the trailer is filled with more balloon-centric action than you knew you needed. Partially based on true events (Wren is a fictional character; in actuality, Glaisher made the journey with scientist Henry Coxwell), the movie looks like a whimsical, entertaining period story fit with some terrific visual effects and production design and looks perfect for an IMAX experience. That was originally the case when it was set for an October 25 release date, but after struggling to meet the standards set for a release window by theater chains, Amazon pulled the big release and will instead have it hit theaters on December 6 before heading to Prime on December 20.

Directed by Tom Harper (PEAKY BLINDERS) and written by Jack Thorne (STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER), the movie also stars Phoebe Fox, Himesh PatelVincent PerezAnne Reid and Tom Courtenay.
