Last week, Deadline announced that genre filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman has wrapped production on a horror movie called Cello. Now a poster for the film has arrived online, sporting the title The Cello. This poster can be seen below… and while it’s pretty simple, there are some interesting things going on in the image. Whatever’s going on with this cello, the tagline promises it plays “music to die for”.

The Cello was written by Turki Al Alshikh, the chairman of the General Authority for Entertainment in Saudi Arabia, and is based on his first novel, which was published earlier this year. The story centers on

an aspiring cellist who learns that the cost of his brand-new cello is a lot more insidious than he first thought.

The film stars Jeremy Irons (Dead Ringers), Tobin Bell (the Saw franchise), Samer Ismail (The Day I Lost My Shadow) and Elham Ali (Ashman).

The Cello was produced by Lee Nelson of Envision Media Art. Executive producers include Sultan Al Muheisen and Niko Ruokosuo of Alamiya and David Tish of Envision Media Arts. Rozam Media handled the financing and owns all rights to the film.

Filming took place in Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic, and the story is told through a mixture of English and Arabic.

Bousman provided the following statement about the project:

I have been blessed to have many adventures in my filmmaking career. None have compared to the production of Cello. I was able to traverse the globe, and work with an international cast and crew. I am excited for the world to see this terrifying tale from the mind of Turki Al Alshikh and am humbled to have had a small part in its creation.”

Bousman came on board The Cello after it had passed through the hands of director Vikram Bhatt (Raaz), who had brought on The Conjuring screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes as script consultants. It doesn’t look like Bhatt or the Hayes brothers had any involvement with the finished film.

Bousman’s previous film was Spiral: From the Book of Saw (watch it HERE).
