Cello: Jeremy Irons, Tobin Bell star in Darren Lynn Bousman film

While we were distracted with his film Spiral: From the Book of Saw (watch it HERE), director Darren Lynn Bousman was busy making another movie. Deadline broke the news that production has already wrapped on his new genre project Cello, which stars Jeremy Irons (Dead Ringers) and the Saw franchise’s own Tobin Bell. Filmed in Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic, Cello is told through a mixture of English and Arabic.

Cello was written by Turki Al Alshikh, the chairman of the General Authority for Entertainment in Saudi Arabia, and is based on his first novel, which was published earlier this year. The story centers on

an aspiring cellist who learns that the cost of his brand-new cello is a lot more insidious than he first thought.

Irons and Bell are joined in the cast by Samer Ismail (The Day I Lost My Shadow) and Elham Ali (Ashman).

Cello is being produced by Lee Nelson of Envision Media Art. Executive producers include Sultan Al Muheisen and Niko Ruokosuo of Alamiya and David Tish of Envision Media Arts. Rozam Media handled the financing and owns all rights to the film.

Bousman had this to say about the project:

I have been blessed to have many adventures in my filmmaking career. None have compared to the production of Cello. I was able to traverse the globe, and work with an international cast and crew. I am excited for the world to see this terrifying tale from the mind of Turki Al Alshikh and am humbled to have had a small part in its creation.”

Before Bousman signed on to direct Cello, Vikram Bhatt (Raaz) was attached to direct and had brought on The Conjuring screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes as script consultants.

We’ll let you know when more information on Bousman’s Cello is made available.
