It seems as though FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD was just playing in theaters, but we're already hearing about the sequel's upcoming home-media release. After escaping custody, the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) begins gathering his followers, and in an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
Critics weren't quite as enamored with THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD as they were with previous installments of the HARRY POTTER franchise, but audiences who did enjoy it, or those seeking to give it a second chance, will soon be able to add it to their collections. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have announced that the film will be released on Digital HD on February 15th followed by a DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD release on March 12th. In addition to nice helping of bonus features, these releases will also include an extended cut of the film which will run an additional 7 minutes. FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD is be the second installment of what is expected to be a five-film series, and much like the Harry Potter novels, J.K. Rowling already has everything mapped out. "It’s always possible that some details will change along the way, but the arc of the story is there," Rowling said. "It’s been an amazing opportunity to tell parts of the backstory that never made it into the original books. I’m thinking particularly of one character that I think fans will be surprised to meet in this movie." It's previously been said that each FANTASTIC BEASTS sequel will be set in a different city, and while Rowling hasn't revealed anything, she has teased that we'll go to at least one, possibly two, new cities in the next film. Rowling also said that she's "keen to move outside Europe and North America" as well.
