The epic extended trailer for Godzilla has to be seen to be believed

As I prepared o watch CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER in IMAX 3D, I was given an extra special treat in the form of the extended trailer for GODZILLA. Now, having already seen clips, TV spots, and trailers galore for the monster movie, I fully expected to have a “been there, done that” mentality towards this new trailer. But boy was I wrong. Holy shit, was I.

Pulling together moments we have seen in the aforementioned spots and trailers, this extended trailer plays like a greatest hits compilation. But, like any decent greatest hits, there are a few new bits to make it worthwhile. Those buts include a lot more references to the original encounter with the monster in the 1950s, the nuclear testing that was not actually testing, and a new, terrifying glimpse at Gojira himself.

An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

After watching the trailer in IMAX 3D, I couldn’t decide if I wanted to stand up and applaud or shake the people next to me and ask if they just saw that. Just this three minute trailer and I already have goosebumps for the full feature. Gareth Edwards may have finally done it and found a way to make the ultimate GODZILLA movie.

GODZILLA stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, and Sally Hawkins. It hits theaters everywhere on May 16th.
