Showtime has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming anthology series, The First Lady, which chronicles the lives of presidential couples throughout American history. The First Lady trailer is sure to make you feel the stresses of the political lifestyle. In other words, steel yourselves for adversity, corruption, and a great look at several women that once helped rule a great nation.

According to its official description, The First Lady shares “a revelatory reframing of American leadership, told through the lens of the women at the heart of the White House,” according to the official description. “The series will peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of three unique, enigmatic women and their families, tracing their journeys to Washington, dipping into their pasts and following them beyond the White House into their greatest moments.”

Viola Davis (The Suicide Squad) stars as Barack Obama’s wife Michelle Obama, with Gillian Anderson (The Crown, Sex Education) playing FDR’s wife Elenor Roosevelt, and Michelle Pfeiffer (Batman Returns) as Betty Ford, wife of Gerald Ford. Also featured throughout the series are Aaron Eckhart as Gerald Ford, Dakota Fanning as Susan Ford, O-T Fagbenle as Barack Obama, and Kiefer Sutherland as Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

While I tend not to dabble in too many politics, I must say that The First Lady looks riveting. I can’t imagine the stress that comes with living the lives of these brave women, and the pressure they’d felt as the public judged them for their every move. The First Lady trailer certainly goes a long way to paint this anthology as a drama with sharp teeth, and the cast is positively stacked. Honestly, I would watch this for David, Anderson, and Pfeiffer’s performances alone.
