Adaptations of the works of author Neil Gaiman are all the rage these days. In recent years we’ve gotten American Gods on Starz, Lucifer on Fox and Netflix, Good Omens and a sequel series on Amazon, Anansi Boys (currently in the works) at Amazon, The Sandman (coming soon) at Netflix, and Dead Boy Detectives (in the works) at HBO Max. Now we can add another one to the ever-growing list: Deadline reports that Marc Forster will be directing an adaptation of Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book for Disney.

First published in 2008, The Graveyard Book told the following story:

When a baby escapes a murderer intent on killing the entire family, who would have thought it would find safety and security in the local graveyard? Brought up by the resident ghosts, ghouls and spectres, Nobody “Bod” Owen has an eccentric childhood learning about life from the dead. But for Bod there is also the danger of the murderer still looking for him – after all, he is the last remaining member of the family. A stunningly original novel deftly constructed over eight chapters, featuring every second year of Bod’s life, from babyhood to adolescence. Will Bod survive to be a man?

Forster‘s previous directorial credits include World War Z, Quantum of Solace, Machine Gun Preacher, All I See Is You, Christopher Robin, The Kite Runner, Stranger Than Fiction, Finding Neverland, and Monster’s Ball. Finding Neverland screenwriter David Magee is writing the screenplay for The Graveyard Book.

Forster’s producing partner Renée Wolfe is producing The Graveyard Book through their company 2Dux2, along with Gil Netter and Ben Browning.

While The Graveyard Book is coming together, Forster is currently in post-production on two other movies; A Man Called Otto, starring Tom Hanks and based on a novel by Fredrik Backman (Magee wrote the script for that one too), and White Bird, a sequel to the 2017 family film Wonder.
