The Green Knight featurette: Ralph Ineson shares what you need to know

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

With the July 30th theatrical release of writer/director David Lowery's fantasy adventure film The Green Knight drawing near, a featurette narrated by cast member Ralph Ineson (best known for his role in The Witch) has arrived online to tell you "almost everything you need to know" about the film and the legend that it's based on. You can get this information from the video embedded above!

Described as "an epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend", The Green Knight stars Dev Patel, Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Alicia Vikander, and the aforementioned Ineson. The story centers on

Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.

The film is rated R for "violence, some sexuality, and graphic nudity".

The Green Knight is being distributed by A24. It was originally scheduled to reach theatres on May 29, 2020, but was pushed back fourteen months due to the pandemic. Although it looks pretty cool and the featurette has boosted my interest in it even further, I'm not sure this is going to be a theatrical watch for me. I'm probably going to wait until I can watch this one at home.

David Lowery's previous directing credits include Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Pete's Dragon, A Ghost Story, and The Old Man & the Gun. He's currently in production on Peter Pan & Wendy for Disney. After watching Ain't Them Bodies Saints and A Ghost Story, I never would have predicted that he'd be making big fantasy adventure films like The Green Knight and Peter Pan & Wendy as well. It's a pleasant surprise.
