Ghost House Pictures and Good Universe will relaunch THE GRUDGE franchise, it was just announced over at Deadline.com. MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN scribe Jeff Buhler is penning the reboot.

The first GRUDGE remake came out in October 2004 and grossed a stunning $39 million in its opening weekend, on its way to a $187 million worldwide haul. Directed by Takashi Shimizu, who helmed many GRUDGE (aka JU-ON) films in Japan, the film followed:

an American nurse working in Tokyo, who after a series of mysterious deaths, uncovers a horrific curse that is being methodically spread by a supernatural spirit that first possesses its victims, then claims their souls and their lives, and then lastly, chooses a new victim.

No word on when we might see this new GRUDGE, but we’ll keep you posted.
