The Guest 2: Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett have found an exciting idea for the sequel

The Guest (watch it HERE) director Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett have been hesitant to move forward with a sequel to their cult favorite 2014 release, fearing that a follow-up could disappoint fans and ruin The Guest for them. So they recently took a unique approach to the idea of giving fans something more and released a soundtrack for the sequel that doesn’t exist. You can listen to The Guest II: Original Soundtrack on Spotify. Now Wingard has told Empire that putting together the soundtrack has helped him and Barrett come up with an idea for a sequel they think could actually work!

Wingard said,

(The soundtrack) really pushed me and Simon into a creative headspace. We’re talking about developing a potential sequel as a real project,” the director says, adding that star Dan Stevens “would love to do it.” Not only that, but it could arrive in a different form to the first story. “Maybe the more interesting thing isn’t doing a sequel to The Guest,” he teases. “Maybe it’s doing a limited series, something we could really sink our teeth into.”

On Twitter, Barrett confirmed that they’ve

finally landed on an idea that excites us and wouldn’t disappoint everyone, but it won’t be soon. Lots to work on first.

One of the other projects Wingard and Barrett have been working on is a sequel to John Woo’s 1998 action classic Face/Off, which starred Nicolas Cage and John Travolta. Cage hasn’t been contacted about the sequel yet, but here’s hoping he will be soon.

The Guest has the following synopsis:

David is the perfect guest. Friendly and helpful, the charismatic soldier arrives at the Peterson family’s doorstep claiming to have been a friend of their beloved son who recently died in action. The Petersons welcome David into their home and into their lives, but when people in town start dying under mysterious circumstances, their teenage daughter Anna begins to suspect that David isn’t who he claims to be.

Dan Stevens, Maika Monroe, Brendan Meyer, Sheila Kelley, Leland Orser, Lance Reddick, Joel David Moore, and Ethan Embry star.

Do you think Wingard and Barrett should make a sequel to The Guest, either as a feature film or a limited series? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
