Joe Cornet and Alexander Nevsky‘s action packed western Gunfight at Rio Bravo was released in the US by Shout! Studios back in January and is available on all of the major digital platforms (for example, you can check it out on Amazon at THIS LINK). The sequel Taken from Rio Bravo was shot in Arizona last summer and is now in the final stages of post-production – and the project went over so well when it was presented to international distributors at the Cannes Film Festival last month, Cornet and Nevsky have announced that they’re putting another sequel on the fast track to production! This one will be titled The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo, and filming is scheduled to begin in August.

Cornet will be directing The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo from a screenplay by Craig Hamann, who also wrote the previous two films and crafted the stories with Nevsky. A plot synopsis for the third entry in the franchise has not yet been revealed, but we do know that Nevsky and Cornet will be reprising the roles of Ivan Turchaninov and Sheriff Vernon Kelly. Other actors from Gunfight at Rio Bravo and Taken from Rio Bravo will be returning as well, but those names are being saved for a future announcement. The filmmakers note that “some other big names of action cinema” are also in talks to join the cast – with previous entries having featured the likes of Matthias Hues, Cynthia Rothrock, Don “The Dragon” Wilson, and Olivier Gruner.

The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo is coming our way from ETA Films, Hollywood Storm, and San Rafael Productions.

Cornet, who is also producing the film, provided the following statement: “It is my pleasure to announce that I will be directing the third installment of the Rio Bravo franchise. The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo is the title of this ‘triquel’. Alexander Nevsky and I will be back in an even bigger, more action packed western which should thrill audiences, production is slated to begin very soon!

Douglas “Fini” Finical and Eric Brenner (Crazy Heart) are executive producing the triquel. Sean Murray (Call of Duty: Black Ops) will be creating the musical score and Art Camacho (Half Past Dead) will be handling the fight choreography and stunts. Sam Wilkinson (Paydirt) returns as Director of Photography. Premiere Entertainment Group represents the Rio Bravo franchise worldwide.

We’ll keep you updated on The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo as the project continues to move forward, and on Taken from Rio Bravo as it makes its way out into the world. In fact, we have some EXCLUSIVE images from Taken from Rio Bravo right here:
