Joe Cornet, the director of the action packed western Gunfight at Rio Bravo (you can check it out on Amazon at THIS LINK) and its upcoming sequel Taken from Rio Bravo, recently made his horror directing debut with Night of the Caregiver (you can watch that one at THIS LINK and read our review of it HERE), which was produced by Rio Bravo star / former Mr. Universe Alexander Nevsky.
It was recently announced that the Rio Bravo creative team are working on a third film in that series, to be called The Last Heroes of Rio Bravo – but before that goes into production, they’re returning to the horror genre! Cornet is set to direct a horror film called The Ominous, with production scheduled to start in February of 2024. Nevsky is producing the film through his Hollywood Storm production banner and will also be starring in it, making his horror acting debut!
Scripted by Craig Hamann, who has also written the Rio Bravo movies and Night of the Caregiver, The Ominous takes place in Hollywood and centers on a screenwriter, who decides to investigate unsolved murder and, unknowingly, wakes up mysterious supernatural forces.
Nevsky will be joined in the cast by Nick Baillie (The Dead Zone, Malicious), Tatiana Neva (Taken from Rio Bravo), and Kerry Goodwin (Promise). Further casting is currently underway in Los Angeles.
Cornet serves as an executive producer on The Ominous alongside Eric Brenner (Crazy Heart), Arrow in the Head’s John Fallon (Malicious, The Shelter), and Douglas “Fini” Finical. ITN Studios’ Stuart Alson and Nicole Holland (Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey) are also on board as executive producers and will coordinate the film’s international distribution.
Nevsky provided the following statement: “I am thrilled to be starring in THE OMINOUS. I have long wanted to act in a Horror film and the success of Joe Cornet’s NIGHT OF THE CAREGIVER (which I produced and ITN released this year) pushed me to finally do it. I can’t wait to make this movie with such a talented team!“
