Uma Thurman (Kill BillPulp Fiction) and Henry Golding (Crazy Rich AsiansSnake Eyes) are joining the cast of Netflix and Skydance’s The Old Guard 2. The highly-anticipated and action-packed sequel also stars Charlize Theron, Kiki Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The Old Guard debuted on Netflix in June 2020 with 186 million views in the first 28 days of release. The film was a tremendous hit on the streamer, and demand for a sequel was immediate. Thankfully, The Old Guard is based on a popular comic book series created by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, of which there are several volumes. The story focuses on a band of immortal mercenaries led by a warrior named Andy (Theron). They’ve been protecting the mortal world for centuries using their extraordinary abilities. When they’re suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Layne), the newest soldier, to join their ranks and help the group eliminate the threat of those seeking to replicate and monetize their powers.

Gina Prince-Bythewood directed the Old Guard. However, Victoria Mahoney is directing The Old Guard 2 from Rucka’s script. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce for Skydance, alongside Theron, Beth Kono, AJ Dix for Denver and Delilah, Marc Evans for Marc Evans Productions, and Prince-Bythewood. Rucka is serving as executive producer.

Details about The Old Guard 2 are being kept under wraps. However, it’s believed that a sequel could revolve around a character named Quynh (Ngo). Quynh is Andy’s right-hand person. Andy and Quynh were the first immortals and spent countless years together (and were romantically involved) until they were captured and separated. Prince-Bythewood teased Quynh in the first film, so it stands to reason that she’ll be a part of the sequel, and she’s not Andy’s biggest fan.

Details about who Thurman and Golding will play have not been revealed. One thing’s for sure; they’re both great additions to the property. I hope we see Thurman kick some ass in Mahoney’s sequel, and Golding gets his chance to shine. Both stars have kept busy over the past several years, with Thurman acting in a series of television roles for shows like ChambersSuspicion, and Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber. Golding recently completed work for Carrie Cracknell’s Persuasion and is currently filming Assassin’s Club, The Tiger’s Apprenticeand Downtown Owl.
