After months of speculation and anticipation, the long awaited trailer for Guillermo Del Toro‘s PACIFIC RIM has finally been unveiled and it is spectacular.

The new trailer was posted live in glorious HD and it looks so badass I barely have words to describe it. From the sheer scale of the robots (excuse me, Jaegers) to the design of the monsters (oh, I mean Kaiju), PACIFIC RIM looks tailor made for an IMAX screen. While I am always hesitant when it comes to 3D post-conversion, I want this movie to be AVATAR quality 3D. I am sure that if PACIFIC RIM looks this great, GODZILLA is going to have to be amazing.

Plot: When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Charlie Hunnam‘s voice-over is chilling. Idris Elba declaring that they are cancelling the Apocalypse is going to be a memorable line for a long time to come. This is so cool!

PACIFIC RIM stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., Ron Perlman, Rob Kazinsky and is set for release on July 12, 2013.
