The Purge 4 will actually be a prequel about the very first Purge ever

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

So right after news of a ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST prequel, we have news of another goddamn prequel, this time for THE PURGE series. However, unlike RATCHED, this one actually makes a bit more sense – especially after the Purge was essentially ended at the end of PURGE: ELECTION YEAR. And, honestly, the idea actually sounds pretty cool. Here's what series creator James DeMonaco said in an interview with Vulture:

I was wondering how you get people to stay for the first Purge, and what they do is they start monetizing it. People from Staten Island can easily go to Brooklyn for the evening, so what they do is start promising very decent sums of money for the very poor people in the neighborhood. It becomes a monetization of murder and violence, incentivizing killing and keeping people around for them to be victims. So you see the inception of how grotesque the idea of the Purge is, the manipulation upon the society. That’s where it becomes, sadly, I think, very topical right now with the current administration.

I'm down. I think it could be fascinating, especially in our current volatile political climate, to see that kind of sentiment being hyperbolized and satirized. DeMonaco also went on to say the television show would take place sometime between the first film and the third film, stating "so if 20 Purges have taken place, or 15, we’re probably on the seventh or eighth in the TV show."

Anyway, the whole interview is actually really interesting and insightful, so you should give it a read yourself.

So Schmoes, what would you guys do in a Purge? Either way, sound off below!
