The trailer for Judd Apatow’s This is 40 will make you feel young

When word came down that Judd Apatow would be making a sequel to KNOCKED UP, many originally thought it would follow Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl’s characters through the trials and tribulations of raising their child. But, instead of a direct sequel, THIS IS 40 shifts the focus to Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd, the sister and brother-in-law to Heigl’s character. The story still seems like the logical next step in following a married couple entering their forties and dealing with the curveballs life throws their way.

With the addition of Melissa McCarthy and Jason Segel (playing a different character than he did in KNOCKED UP), we have what looks like a solidly funny and real portrait of what it feels like to enter midlife.

THIS IS 40 seems to be a mixture of the KNOCKED UP/40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN school of humor and Apatow’s more dour FUNNY PEOPLE. I personally have enjoyed all of the Apatow directed films to date and the fact that this trailer feels like it could have been filmed directly after KNOCKED UP gives me good feelings about it’s quality.

THIS IS 40 opens December 21, 2012.
