The Unholy: trailer released for Sam Raimi-produced Shrine adaptation

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

A few days ago, we shared the news that Sony is planning an Easter weekend release for writer/director Evan Spiliotopoulos' supernatural/religious horror movie The Unholy, and now the studio has released a trailer to promote the fact that The Unholy will be reaching theatres on April 2nd.

The trailer can be seen above, and makes it look like this film is going to be good and intense.

Based on the James Herbert novel Shrine (pick up a copy HERE), The Unholy was produced by Sam Raimi and stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The story centers on

Alice, a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick. As word spreads and people from near and far flock to witness her miracles, a disgraced journalist (Morgan) hoping to revive his career visits the small New England town to investigate. When terrifying events begin to happen all around, he starts to question if these phenomena are the works of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister.

Morgan is joined in the cast by Katie Aselton, Cary Elwes, William Sadler, Diogo Morgado, Cricket Brown, Marina Mazepa, Christine Adams, and Bates Wilde.

Spiliotopoulos and Rob Tapert produced the film with Raimi. Andrea Ajemian and Romel Adam serve as executive producers.

Check out the trailer and see if you'd like to spend some of your Easter weekend watching The Unholy.
