Speaking as someone who proudly proclaims that Terry Gilliam’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is one of his favorite movies of all time, I’m no stranger to the art of the stoner comedy. Back in April, Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher ordered up Pizza Movie, a college comedy that saw Gaten Matarazzo, Sean Giambrone, and Lulu Wilson riding out several stages of a drug-induced apocalypse, and today, we have Kristen Stewart (American Ultra, Twilight, Underwater) and Alia Shawkat (Blink Twice, The Old Man, Severance) tripping lady balls after imbibing a mysterious, glowing liquid that turns their brains to mush in addition to granting them telepathic abilities. Hold onto your sanity, folks, because Neon wants to get you high with its new trailer for The Wrong Girls.

My favorite thing about Neon’s The Wrong Girls trailer is how it revels in the film’s stupidity and unhinged antics. The film isn’t pretending to be anything other than a good, drug-addled time for people who appreciate zany cinema with a sharp comedic edge, low stakes, and a plot that makes Dude, Where’s My Car? feel like Masterpiece Theatre.

“Frankie and Molly are codependent boneheads who have spent the last 10 years blissfully in a fog of weed smoke, co-signing each others’ bad choices and screening adulthood’s increasingly insistent calls,” Meyer told Entertainment Weekly last month. “Just as Molly’s boyfriend asks her to move in with him, Frankie is mistakenly given a briefcase full of glowing vials of an experimental psychedelic.”
Stewart previously described the movie, practically catering to my comedic sensibilities by saying, “It’s a stoner girl comedy, and it’s really f—ing stupid,” she said. “I think you’ll like it.”
I am so down bad for this movie. I won’t be resurrecting any of my college era habits to watch it, but I know a good edible or two that would be happy to go along for the ride. The Wrong Girls stumbles into theaters on August 14, 2026.
