Booboo Stewart of the Twilight films and X-Men: Days of Future Past stars in the supernatural horror film Those Who Walk Away, which VMI Worldwide will be giving a U.S. theatrical and VOD release this Friday, February 11th. In anticipation of the film’s release, a trailer has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Directed by Robert Rippberger from a screenplay he wrote with Spencer Moleda, Those Who Walk Away has the following synopsis:

After Max and Avery meet on a social media app for a first date, their evening takes a perilous turn when they end up at a local haunted house, the home of ‘Rotcreep’, a sinister creature that rots your body and soul with one touch. As the night turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse, Max and Avery begin to realize the trauma they share may either save them or erupt into an unforgettable nightmare.

Stewart takes on the role of Max, while Avery is played by Scarlett Sperduto (Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector). Stunt coordinator Nils Allen Stewart is credited as playing Rotcreep.

Those Who Walk Away is said to be loosely inspired by the Ursula Le Guin short story The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas. It doesn’t come across in the trailer, but the movie was filmed in a series of long continuous takes. According to a press release, Rippberger’s film captures “the eerie and bloodcurdling moral predicament of living high while others suffer”.

An SIE Films and Argentic Production, in association with Sandeep Sekhar Films and Slated, Those Who Walk Away was funded by by 828 Media Capital. Rippberger produced the film with KT Kent. Sandeep Sekhar co-produced, while Jeremy Walton, David Lyons, Todd Lundbohm, Mark Andrews, Eric Eppinger, Ge Gru, Stephanie Denton, Jay Burnley, Chelsea Tieu, Gaurav Bhatnagar, and Jarnell Stokes served as executive producers.

I can’t say the trailer for Those Who Walk Away really drew me in, but I do like the concept of Rotcreep. I’m interested in hearing more about this creature, so I’ll probably give the movie a chance.
