Update: Earlier today we posted a report from The Tracking Board that Tiny Fey was picked up to produce a sequel to HOCUS POCUS. Now, Fey’s rep has come out to say the following:

Their report is not accurate — Tina is not developing a sequel to ‘Hocus Pocus’.

That, as they say, is that. While I have an inkling that a sequel may develop in some form or fashion, as of now, it does not involve Tina Fey. Sad day. The original article will remain unaltered below, for your viewing pleasure.

HOCUS POCUS is just one of those movies that wont die. Every Halloween it pops up on the radar, and evidently that fact hasn’t escaped studio executives as HOCUS POCUS 2 is definitely “a thing” as Tina Fey has been tapped to produce the sequel. Reports originally listed that Tina Fey and/or Melissa McCarthy were being approached for lead roles. Perhaps part of the deal included Tina Fey‘s company, Little Stranger, producing as well? At this point, bringing on Tina Fey as a partner can only help the idea of a sequel.

The plot synopsis, according to The Tracking Board:

The sequel will pick up years after the original, focusing on a housewife who is related to the Sanderson sisters, who teams up with a witch hunter to save her children after they run afoul of some resurrected witches while out trick-or-treating.

I’m pretty indifferent about the idea of a sequel/reboot, but Tina Fey always draws my attention, despite the quality of the finished product. She’s smart, she’s funny, and she’s gorgeous. It’s not often you run into that trifecta, so call me curious as to what they’ll go for with a sequel. If they actually do sign up Fey and McCarthy as leads, I think this project will really gain some momentum.

Given that it’s way too late to aim for this Halloween, I’d imagine they’ll be looking at a Halloween release for HOCUS POCUS 2 in 2015, at the earliest.
