Last year, we reported that Tomorrow Studios had optioned the rights to a series based on Joon-ho Bong's 2014 dystopian flick SNOWPIERCER. Today, the train has been put on the tracks. TNT has ordered a pilot of said series, to add to their slate of content which also includes the horror series adaptation Let the Right One In.

This show I'm not quite so nervous about. As opposed to Let the Right One In, which has a very specific, not easily serialized storyline, SNOWPIERCER isn't necessarily about characters but the world they live in. The film set up such an interesting dystopian setting that it almost doesn't matter who is populating it. They can tell endless stories from a million different perspectives as long as they stick to that universe. That's also why I don't have a problem with the potential series based on THE PURGE.

It can be good or it can be bad, but I think this one might at least have a chance.

Here's the plot of the original film:

A post-apocalyptic ice age forces humanity's last survivors aboard a globe-spanning supertrain. One man will risk everything to lead a revolt for control of the engine and the future of the world.

The pilot will be written and executive produced by showrunner Josh Friedman. It will be co-executive produced by Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Joon-ho Bong, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, and Dooho Choi
