To the surprise of no one, Hamilton movie is in development

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

HAMILTON is a f*cking phenomenon. I don't remember the last time a show on Broadway was talked about this much (save maybe SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK, but for entirely different reasons). I still maintain that the soundtrack sounds like a cartoon dog with a backwards cap rapping about history, but I'm just glad that a) theater is popular again, b) people are getting jazzed about something historical, c) something with such a diverse cast is being recognized and d) while not fan of rap or hip-hop myself, I'm glad people who do enjoy it, but otherwise wouldn't have sought it out, got some exposure to it.

So it's no surprise that talk of a film adaptation has been underway. With something this popular and significant, that conversation is inevitable. When asked about the possibility by The Hollywood Reporter, Lin-Manuel Miranda (the writer and director of the show) responded emphatically, "Yes!" while following up with "Who knows when?…I don’t think I’m done with that role [on stage], by any stretch".

There you have it. Confirmation that a film is in talks for development, and also the fact that it may be a while before we get to see it.

So any Schmoes fans of the show? And if so, would you look forward to a film adaptation? Either way, sound off below!
