Something amazing happened for me at CinemaCon in Las Vegas – I finally got to see Top Gun: Maverick. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Finally??? Doesn’t the movie only come out on May 27th? However, if you’re a Top Gun fan, you’ll know that the film has had an insane amount of release delays and, to whet my appetite, I saw the first twelve minutes of it back at CinemaCon 2021 when it seemed like its release was imminent (it was not). While I still can’t say much about my reaction to the film, I can reveal one difference between the footage I saw in August and the finished product from last week. Lady Gaga now has a score credit alongside Harold Faltermeyer and Hans Zimmer, and Gaga and Top Gun fans can hear her power ballad from the film’s soundtrack now! Check out the video below:

The song “Hold My Hand” comes with pretty lofty expectations. Let’s not forget, Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away” not only went Gold but also won the Oscar for Best Original Song and became a classic. That said, if anyone could write a new power ballad classic, it’s Gaga.

The singer/actress/icon seemed to take the assignment to heart, posting recently on Instagram:

So what do you think? Is this the next “Take My Breath Away?” Let us know in the comments below. You can catch our full Top Gun: Maverick review once embargo breaks in about two weeks, but you can listen to the Lady Gaga song on repeat right now!
