Clear the tarmac, check your flight patterns, and strap yourselves in for some sound barrier-breaking flight maneuvers, because Tom Cruise's TOP GUN: MAVERICK is scheduled to fly two days ahead of schedule on June 24, 2020!

Paramount Pictures announced on Monday that director Joseph Kosinski's highly-anticipated sequel to the 1986 original will take flight on Wednesday as opposed to Friday, giving the film a pre-Independence Day boost against Dreamworks Animation's TROLLS WORLD TOUR as well as Jon M. Chu's feature adaptation of the Broadway musical IN THE HEIGHTS. Maverick's new launch is also likely to give the film an edge against films such as Illumination/Universal’s MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU and Ryan Reynolds' FREE GUY, both of which hit theaters on July 3rd.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Tom CruiseChristopher McQuarrie, and David Ellison, TOP GUN: MAVERICK finds Cruise's Maverick back in the cockpit and ready to fly headlong into his most challenging mission yet, training a group pilots for a specialized mission that will test their skills as well as their mettle.

Set to join Tom Cruise amidst the big blue for TOP GUN: MAVERICK are Miles Teller as Lt. Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw, Glen Powell as 'Hangman', Monica Barbaro as 'Phoenix', Lewis Pullman as 'Bob', Jay Ellis as 'Payback', and Danny Ramirez as 'Fanboy'.

Here is the official synopsis for TOP GUN: MAVERICK:

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”.

Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK will now split the sky like a sheet in theaters on June 24, 2020.
