Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka has signed on to lead the voice cast of Cadence13’s first feature-length podcast, a supernatural thriller called Treat that the company is referring to as an “audio movie”. Treat is currently in production and is set to be released through all major podcast platforms on Monday, October 25th.

Treat is coming our way from C13Features, the new scripted audio movie division of Audacy’s Cadence13, in partnership with Endeavor Content. Given that there’s a whole new division dedicated to this type of content, it sounds like the company intends to bring us a lot more audio movies in the future.

This one was written by author Nathan Ballingrud and tells the story of

a seemingly perfect American town whose residents make a deal with a mysterious outsider possessing supernatural powers to help it recover from social turmoil. When the town falls behind on its payments, a trio of teenagers — led by Allie West (Shipka) — must unlock the secret of his powers.

Shipka serves as executive producer alongside Cadence13’s Chris Corcoran. Best Case Studios and Two & Two Pictures’ Lucan Toh and Babak Anvari (who directed the Ballingrud-inspired film Wounds) are co-producing.

Shipka had this to say about the project:

I’m thrilled to be playing Allie — she’s a strong-willed, complex young girl with a true weight on her shoulders: She has to be the adult in her family, but she’s still just a teenager coming of age, and being able to play her and navigate her world is really fulfilling. Treat is a one-of-a-kind thrilling audio movie and story, and I’m so excited to be part of this experience with C13Features.”

Treat sounds interesting and I like to listen to the occasional audio drama, so I’ll probably seek it out during this Halloween season.
