TV Roundup: Christopher Walken joins Peter Pan Live & new Doctor Who trailer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt has announced Christopher Walken will play Captain Hook in Peter Pan Live, the network's follow-up to The Sound of Music Live. Christopher Walken will reunite with his HAIRSPRAY producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron for the live musical, and Bob Greenblatt says Walken's version of the character might be the "first tap dancing Captain Hook you've ever seen." Greenblatt also said they were hoping to cast Kristen Bell as Peter Pan, but unfortunately she won't be able to join the project due to her commitment to Showtime's House of Lies.

The ratings for NBC's The Sound of Music Live were pretty impressive (18.62 viewer with a 4.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic) and although I didn't see their last live telecast, I might have to check out Peter Pan Live. Who doesn't want to see Christopher Walken as a tap dancing Captain Hook? Peter Pan Live will air on NBC on December 4, 2014.

While we're on the subject of television news, the first full trailer for Doctor Who series 8 has been released, and it appears the new series is going to be a little darker than previous ones. I've never been a huge Doctor Who fan, but I do love Peter Capaldi, and I'm sure he'll do an excellent job as the latest incarnation of the Doctor.

Series 8 of Doctor Who will premiere on BBC One on August 23, 2014.
