Sony's Marvel Comics adaptation MORBIUS (or, as I like to call it, MORBIUS THE LIVING VAMPIRE) has added two new cast members this week. Yesterday we shared the news that Jared Harris was signing on to play a mystery role in the film, and now comes word that Tyrese Gibson is also joining the cast. As with Harris, "exact details of who Gibson would play are currently unknown."
Gibson is best known these days for appearing in several FAST AND FURIOUS sequels.
MORBIUS is set to star Jared Leto as the title character, who was first introduced by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #101 back in 1971. He is
Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease and attempted to cure himself to disastrous results. Instead of being cured, he became afflicted with a condition that was a form of vampirism — the thirst for blood, along with fangs and super strength.
Also in the cast are Matt Smith, playing another unspecified character, and Adria Arjona… and we actually know who Arjona is playing! Her character is Morbius's fiancee Martine Bancroft, who
could be said to be accidentally responsible for Morbius’ transformation into a vampire-like creature, as it’s the human Morbius’ love for fiancee Martine that drives him to experiment on himself.
Daniel Espinosa is directing MORBIUS from a screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Lucas Foster are producing the film, with Palak Patel overseeing the project for the studio.
MORBIUS is currently filming in London, and Leto shared an obscured shot of himself as Morbius to mark the completion of the first week of the twelve week shoot.
Tyrese Gibson shared a video from London this morning. It looks like he was visiting the MORBIUS special effects crew, and while the nearly decapitated corpse he took a shot of may have nothing to do MORBIUS it's worth taking a look at anyway.
